Top 5 Things Not To Do When Buying Games

May 11, 2017 | Deals, How To

You’re old hat at this. You’ve been buying games for years now – you head on down to your local video game store, or log onto your favorite website to browse the games there. But did you know that you’re not paying the best prices for your games if that’s how you buy them?

So how do you avoid making these costly mistakes? Let me tell you my best tips on getting the best games at the best prices.

1. Don’t buy all your games from only one store!

There are loads of digital game stores online and more often than not, multiple stores will carry the game that you want. While we all have our favorite stores to buy games from, sometimes other stores may have greater discounts for the same game!

Does this mean that you have to look through a whole list of different stores everyday, always on the lookout for the game you want? Nope. Not at all! Let Razer Cortex: Deals do the grunt work for you, scanning the major digital game stores every hour and having all the prices in one place.

2. Don’t miss any Flash Deals

Good things come to those who wait – but don’t let the opportunity pass you by.  Games sometimes only go on discount for 24 hours and by the time you find out, the deal’s already over.

How do you beat that you ask? Simply add the game to your Wishlist on Razer Cortex: Deals and you’ll receive a notification whenever the game goes on sale. Best part is, you don’t even have to create your Wishlist from scratch. Sync your existing Wishlists from Steam, GamersGate or GOG.com and you’re good to go!

For those of you who are always on the go, download the Razer Cortex mobile app (available on App Store or Google Play Store) and you’ll get notifications right on your phone. You’ll never have to miss a flash deal again!

4. Don’t jump on the hype train

You see a trailer for a game, it looks amazing, and you get caught up in the hype. You know how they say don’t judge a book by its cover? Well don’t judge a video game by its annoucement trailer either.

The beauty of the gaming industry is that information is everywhere. From reviews on Metacritic to game walkthroughs on YouTube, check out what other people have to say about the game before buying it. In fact, we’ll be doing game reviews of the latest games right here on this blog too!

To bring you quality games, Razer staff handpick the best games with the biggest discounts everyday on Editor’s Picks. Discover some new games, along with the triple A favorites where everyday there’s something new!

5. You don’t always have to pre-order games

While pre-orders may seem like a good idea – you get nifty cool items, get access to the game once it comes out, sometimes games on early-access or right out of pre-order may be more trouble than its worth.

In recent times, pre-ordering a game often results in disappointment, especially if the game is buggy and a 2gb patch is released on day 1. A compromised game experience is not what you’re spending $60 for. Instead, give it a couple of weeks for the patches updated and gameplay to be streamlined before downloading the game. Who knows, maybe in that time the game may even go on discount so you get a better game for a lower price!

I’m not saying never ever pre-order a game though. If you’ve done your research, read the reviews or loved every other game in the series, pre-orders can sometimes work out. Besides, it may be hard to resist the temptation of a game you’ve been looking forward to for years.

Not sure when the price is going to drop? Add the game to your Wishlist and we’ll keep track of all the price changes for you!
