Read on to find out what the best games of June are!
First up, we have Hollow Knight. It was recently released in February this year and is a 2D action adventure which brings you across an intricate, interconnected world. As you can tell by now, I’m a great fan of games with gorgeous graphics and Hollow Knight doesn’t disappoint. The metroidvania is beautifully hand drawn, with elements of ethereal yet oddly cute graphics.
In this world, you play a bug-like hero in an ancient, ruined kingdom, uncovering the secrets of this land. Controls are easy to pick up, and the mechanics of jumping, slicing and shooting are all second nature. Additionally, the game difficulty is right on point. Bosses aren’t impossible to pass, but aren’t a walk in the park either. Ultimately, Hollow Knight is a fun and quirky indie title that is too damn adorable to not pick up right now.
Take a trip back to the 80s with this 3rd-person horror survival game. Playing as either a camp counselor or Jason himself, this multiplayer addition to the Friday the 13th franchise stays true to the movies. Firstly, the visuals themselves are a throwback. While they may not be the best in terms of graphics, they are in line with the 80s scene. The maps too are drawn straight from the movies, mirroring the iconic Camp Crystal Lake.
However, the part I was most excited about was getting to play as Jason. Armed with an arsenal of abilities that allow you to hunt, chase or silence those pesky counselors, being bad has never felt so good. On the other hand, the counselors have to sneak their way through the camp, finding a way to escape. Players are randomly assigned to either role.
While the game may still be slightly buggy, it’s never too early to keep an eye on an otherwise great addition to the series by adding Friday the 13th: The Game to your Wishlist!
Tekken needs no introduction, with this being the 7th installment of the series. And Bandai has done a bang-up job of refining an already excellent combat game. While it promises a more character-driver story, the fighting elements and controls of the game far outshines the narrative. The mechanics of Tekken is what makes the series stands out in a sea of fighting games. A combat model which encourages experimentation through its accurately mapped 3D fighting model, fights never get boring.
This is helped along by new systems introduced. Rage Arts and Rage Drivers are new additions to the game play and keep up the excitement. When players drop to 25% of their health, these Rage modes are triggered, and the player gets to deal a powerfully damaging attack. This follows Tekken’s mantra that it’s anyone’s game until the opponent goes down.
Even though the game is still slightly pricey, Tekken 7 is definitely not to be missed as a solid addition to the fighting game genre. Add the game to your Wishlist today so you’ll never miss a price drop!
